Greeting from the Commander
Greetings,
My name is John Lowden and I am the Commander of the Captain James MacFarland American Legion Post 79 in Burlington N.J. I am originally from Burlington but now I live in Berlin Twp. NJ. with my wife Cory and daughter Gretchen.
I enlisted in the United States Air Force in March of 1980. I was trained as a Wideband Radio Relay Technician and my first assignment was with the 73rd Tactical Control Flight at Myrtle Beach AFB in South Carolina and later with the 2187th Communications Group, OL-P in Rimini Italy, In March of 1984, I was honorably discharged, taking with me my military experience, training, discipline and work ethic.
I was an American Legion Post 1000 member for several years and in 2023 I transferred to Post 79 in Burlington N.J. due to the relationship between Post 79 and some of my late family members. In 2024 I became Commander of Post 79. With the help and support of the officers and membership of Post 79, I am working to continue the tradition of serving Veterans, military members and their families, while supporting programs that strengthen our community, state and nation. If you are a Veteran and you are interested in learning more about Post 79 and joining us, you can contact the post at (609) 290-3926 or email us at jglowdenjr@gmail.com
I invite everyone to use this website to learn about upcoming veteran oriented and patriotic events, as well as the military heritage of the Burlington area.
For God and Country,
Commander John Lowden
Captain James MacFarland American Legion Post 79
